MODULE 2: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO ENHANCE STUDENTS' ENGLISH SKILLS

INTRODUCTION:

This module allowed me to explore the effective integration of artificial intelligence in English language teaching, discovering valuable tools to develop both receptive and productive skills. For reading comprehension, I used platforms such as Read Along, and for listening comprehension, podcasts, songs, and AI conversations. For productive skills, language models helped me refine my writing, and AI conversations helped me improve my speaking. Creating bots and smart notebooks was an enriching experience, as these virtual assistants organize information, answer questions, and encourage autonomous learning. The presentation of these projects and the final reflection on the blog made me see the positive impact of AI in education and its potential to improve English language teaching.

REFLECTION ON KEY CONCEPTS:

This module allowed me to have a better understanding of the direct application of AI to improve students' language skills, complementing the previous module with a more practical and pedagogical approach. I discovered that AI is not just for automation, but is key to optimizing English teaching and learning. We saw how to use AI tools for text-to-speech pronunciation, listening comprehension, speech recognition, writing AI grammar checkers, and reading text generators adapted to the learner's level. Personalized learning was a central concept, as AI can adapt to each student's pace and style, which is crucial for diversity in the English classroom. By working with educational technology tools such as chatbots, writing assistants and progress tracking apps, I was able to see how we can transform traditional classrooms into much more interactive and personalized environments.

CONCLUSION AND KEY LEARNINGS:

This module has made it clear to me that the real challenge of AI in the classroom is not merely its implementation, but ensuring that it is used ethically, with clear intent and a well-defined purpose. Going forward, I intend to integrate digital resources that not only complement the material but also empower active student participation. My vision is to design activities in which students can explore, practice, and reflect, leveraging AI as a facilitator, without becoming mere passive users. One case study that excites me is a speaking activity where students interact with a chatbot to practice a dialogue in English and then reflect on their own fluency and accuracy. This type of exercise is key to developing genuine communication skills in a controlled and less intimidating space. In conclusion, this module leaves me with a noticeably broader, practical, and critical perspective on technology, and a strong motivation to continue learning and innovating in my teaching career.

INCORPORATION OF CONTENT CREATED WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

One of the most rewarding experiences of this second module was the opportunity to learn about tools with NotebookLM for podcast creation, and the other tools for audio creation using text.  These recognitions not only provided me with essential knowledge to the content of the course content, but also opened the doors to make use of artificial intelligence applied to education.
